Hello! It’s always so nerve racking when I write something that I know will be posted on the internet for the world to see. Maybe I have too much anxiety. To be honest, I also wasn’t sure what to write for my first post. I suppose I’ll begin by explaining why I created this website.
Basically, I love food. Food has always played a major role in bringing my family and friends together. And, like most people, I don’t only eat food for the nutrition. I eat it for the taste, duh. Yet as much as I enjoy the taste of fried foods such as french fries, I also find it important to note that having a proper diet plays a large role in preventing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, coronary disease, diabetes, strokes, and even certain types of cancers. Limiting one’s intake on processed foods, fried foods, or foods high in sugar can extend lives as well as make them far more enjoyable in the long run.
For me, I see too many of my family members struggling with these preventable diseases. My grandfather had an open heart surgery and a foot amputation due to diabetes. He lived a long life, but he also lived a sick one because he refused to make necessary changes to his diet. My dad is also currently struggling with diabetes. He’s always trying the latest diet trend, and even though they work for a short while, he always ends up back where he started.
I, on the other hand, am incredibly passionate about eating whole foods, being properly informed about nutrition, and sharing that information with people I care about. The internet is a great big space of misinformation. Food and drug companies often have deceptive advertising practices, making their consumers believe that certain foods are healthier than they really are, or that you absolutely need the vast supplements lining the shelves in the Pharmacy sections of stores. Not to mention all of the diet fads floating around telling everyone that they have the magical key to help a person lose weight and be healthier. It can be difficult to navigate the ever changing world of nutrition, especially when there are many companies out there profiting off of misinformed people.
I’ve created this website to merely bring my many loves together: food, nutrition, writing, and education.
This website will help me lead a more balanced life where I can do what I love, learn how to cook healthy and tasty meals from my mother, and stop rattling off nutritional facts at my family and boyfriend.
There will be some delicious and nutritious recipes on the way. Stay tuned and enjoy!
